I dropped my ipod touch 2G in the toilet don't ask me how i immediately took it out but it was dim and i couldn't see a thing so i held the home button and power button and let it turn off and then i put it in a bowl of rice it sitting in there now. I was just wondering did i do the right thing and what else can i do.

Trying to turn it on might have killed it, so no you didn't do the right thing exactly. Putting it in the bowl of rice immediately was the right idea though.

you shouldnt have press the home and power, that might have turned it on and fried something. just wait a few days or weeks(to be safe).

Yes, any electrical impulses from the device signalling the hardware to turn on/shut down could fry it.

It'll be fine in ~4 days. I got mine wet, not saying how, but it wasn't submerged like it would be in a toilet. I immediantly tried to work it, and it did work for like 2 second, then the screen slowly grew white until it was completely white. The I locked and nothing came on when I unlocked. So I left it in rice, and it eventually worked

ps: you're rice is uncooked right? Just checking

Mine got run through the washing machine, and I revived it.
I have a lot of those small bags of silica gel they ship with things to absorb moisture, so I stuck all of that I could find into a big plastic bag with my ipod for 2 days.
Took it out, powered it on, and it was fine.
It had a little water damage on the screen, but even most of that cleared up after another week.
The only thing that still isn't right with the unit is the wifi connection.
It gets a very weak signal.
I have to be really near a wifi access point for it to get a signal and keep it.
    Good luck.
