I'm an iPhone user and I no longer have a data-plan because my contract expired.

So I disabled cell data so I wouldn't get charged alot.

My question is should I disable the 3G switch also? since 3G uses more battery than edge. Or should i enable since the call quality is supposed to be better?

R U an AT&T customer (without a data plan? That would be unusual.
    If a US T-Mobile user ... 3G can't be used (not compatible w/iPhone).

And ... 'disabled cell data' .... not sure what you mean .... SBSettings 'DATA' toggle?

Bottom line: If you have no data plan, 3G/EDGE/DATA and APN (except MMS) settings are not used. If these are enabled, they will periodically try to connect but fail. Turn everything off (except Airplane & WiFi

My iPhone is factory unlcoked and I'm from Europe.

What I mean is in settings > general > network, I disabled the data toggle but left the 3G on. Should I disable it or doesn't it make any difference?

I'll say again --- if you don't have a data plan, you don't need 3G/EDGE or anything related to data.

And to possibly make it even more clear: 3G/EDGE is for internet (data) ONLY --- NOT voice/SMS/MMS. No reason to have it enabled. TURN IT OFF
