    With only Paint.NET and GIMPShop?
    Thank you in advance.

    My first attempt.

I assume the proper way is similar.

    I didn't follow a guide or anything.

    1. Whatever you like
    2. Can't help much, I use photoshop, but just keep trying...

    What colors are you using?

    1.OK
    2a.Lucky! (unless you "obtained" it)
2b.Since I'm a Paint.NET novice, I just make a black gradient, then tint it blue.

    What I did:

    New document
    New layer
    Fill with a dark gray
    New layer
Fill with whatever color you want
    New layer
Type in the text. I think the font is Myriad?
Dunno how to do this in Paint.NET or Gimp, but make a selection around the text. ONLY the text. Not a rectangle marquee
Delete selection from the layer with the fill color of your choice
    Delete text layer
Add a drop shadow to the fill color layer
Add a black to alpha gradient from left to right. Change the opacity to your liking
    Merge layers
Add about 10 pixels to the length and width
Add a drop shadow to the image
    Done

Bolded text -- can't get to work
Underlined -- never go to do

In photoshop, you ctrl + click on the thumbnail of the layer to do that. It might be similar.

Its quite easy actually, make a square, or rectangle, then use a random font you want in a dark grey, then add an inner shadow, make the degrees set to 90, and then maybe add noise, 1%, maybe. Thats just my guess, but there are many tutorials on how to create adobe CS4 Icons.
