Hi Guys! I'm new to the forum, and I've read all the posts on this thread. I had done some online research concerning the Iphone + alternate carrier (att/verizon/sprint=TOO expensive) and it looked like it was possible to have a legit Iphone on an alternate carrier. This is what I plan to do: Purchase an unlocked Iphone 4S and a microsim from ST (4S requires the microsim). My question is: do I still have to do the aforementioned "adjustments" in order to get MMS properly working? How about FaceTime on 3G? Thanks.

You do not need an unlocked 4s. Just get a AT&T locked 4s it will save you a few hundred. And for mms you will need to jailbreak so make sure it has 5.0.1 software. Btw FaceTime will work fine over wifi but if yOu jailbreak you can use it all the time

TY for the quick reply. I only made the decision for purchasing an unlocked 4S because I don't have any of the IPhones ;) .

If i were to unlock my at&t iphone 4, would there be any way i could pick up verizon signal with straight talk? Verizon just built a new tower right down the road from my house

No, Straight Talk = AT&T = GSM Network.
Which means they use simcards and such, etc.

Verizon = CDMA = doesn't use sim cards, and the process of unlocking these phones to work on another CDMA network is rather hard and you'd need people on the 'inside' of the other network. (unless the phone is allowed to be unlocked, i.e. the BlackBerry Storm)
