Organize Apps with Categories WITHOUT Causing plist corruption or SWoD

    [Noob-Proof]

Mods: I was not sure whether to post this here or in Tech Help; please put it were you see fit.

Want a neat, organized springboard, without the worries of a lurking spinning wheel of death? Here's how:

    1. Install the latest version of Categories from Installer.

    2. Open Categories, and tap the tab on in the bottom left hand corner called "Configuration"

    3. Turn off "Auto-hide Icons"

    4. Now, create a category (or however many you wish)

    5. Add apps to the category.

NOTE: When you add apps to a category, they will not disappear from your homescreen. You can choose to do this manually in Customize.

    6. (OPTIONAL) Hide the apps that you added to a category in Customize or by using Poof.

    READ:

The reason for taking these steps is so that you do not have two different applications (in this case Customize and Categories) hiding and unhiding applications on your homescreen. This decreases the risk that you get plist corruption or a spinning whell of death. Please note that this does not make your device immune to any kind of issue that you may come across. It is simply a much safer way to organize applications.

    Sticky? =]

When all you can see is the wallpaper and the dock, and also when:

The icon order won't change/update in Customize

You cannot add/edit categories in Categories.

    *Thanks for the feedback.

Install some image packs from Installer. Look in Themes (Customize).

What do you do if someone does have the plist corruption? (apps not showing up on home screen)
My friend has this and does not know what to do. Does she have to restore? Or can this be fixed somehow?

Your friend can replace her N45AP.plist file.

    1. Download and extract the attached zip.
    2. place N45AP.plist in /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app. (Replace the old one)
    3. Respring/reboot.
