Hi, I just got 8GB Touch (1G) for X'mas gift. I checked the firmware version is 1.1.3 (4A93), it's new and it's not jailbreak yet.

Since I'm new to this, I need someone to tell me if I can upgrade the FW to 2.2 ? and link to the FW file needed and an instruction for how to will be greatly appreciated.

Easy as pie buddy, just go to itunes check for update, and update that sucker! If you want to jailbreak it follow the instructions using quickpwn and the guide on here.

Thanks for the reply. After the FW upgrade, do I have to jailbreak it in order to install the .IPA files on games or other applications?

I'm successfully upgraded to FW 2.0 from FW 1.1.3 using iPod1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore. Now I want to upgrade it to FW 2.2 via iTune, but with this error message:

"There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod. You do not have permission to access the requested resource"

    Now what should I do?

    Same Problem

I am getting the same message. I have version 1.1.4 & have purchased the 2.2 upgrade, but get the "you do not have permission to access the requested resource" message.

I am the lone admin. on this machine, & I've restarted iTunes & the computer 2 or 3 times each.

If you actually purchased it then you need to contact apple immediately...

    --------------------------

If you already downloaded the firmware then go to your ipod status page "the info page that shows what firmware it is and ect" in itunes and hold down the shift key and click the "restore" button.

-On vista- "you must have hidden folders visible, if you need help look at bottom of post"
    A window should pop up,
click the down arrow by the current folder name,
then go up one to your username.
"These are all folders" Then open "Appdata",
    then open "Roaming",
    then open "Apple Computer",
    then open "iTunes",
    then open "iPod Software Updates",
    then Select "iPod1,1_2.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw",
and click "open" on the window.

iTunes should now guide you through the rest of the process.

    ----------To unhide hidden folder---------
Click the start button and open my documents,
then tap the alt button "for vista",
and at the top click "Tools",
    then select "Folder Options",
a dialog window should pop up now,
at the top of the dialog click "View" and a list should be visible,
scroll down the list until you find a option listed as "Hidden files and Folders" it has a small folder icon beside it.
Under this option check "or in vista click the bubble" that says "show hidden files and folders",
    now click apply then OK.

You are now ready to do the steps above. Good luck

Sorry I am not allowed to share download locations of the 2.2 firmware as it would be a act of piracy, if you purchased the firmware you need to contact apple. If not then you should purchase the firmware.

You are more than welcome to continue your search on google for assistance, but I am not obligated to assist you here as it is against the rules.

re; How to upgrade FW 1.1.3 (4A93) to FW 2.2 on new Touch 1G

    I have the same issue.
And thanks reluttr, but there are NO files in that folder you indicated.
For me on XP: C:\Documents and Settings\MyProfile\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Apple Mobile Device Sync Diagnostics Logs

I am pretty certain the store accepted my purchase because now there is a new entry on the left-menu under "store" that says "Purchased".

Note, when going through the upgrade process I get a pop-up asking 'download & install' and 'download only'. Both fail with the message indicated by the previous writers.

What is the most efficient means to 'contact apple immediately'? I've never tried before are they better online? phone?
