    Hello

I've searched quite a bit on this topic and found quite some info for it on the iphone but not on the ipod touch. So I thought I'd ask it here.

So the deal is; I have a jailbroken ipod touch (2G) running 4.0
and I want to upgrade to firmware 4.1 without jailbreaking it again ( a decent 4.1 jailbreak isn't out yet anyways and many will think just wait till 4.1 is jailbroken, but I plan to go on without a jailbreak)

But I'm wondering what the deal is with these SHSH's now... Would somebody be so kind to help me out ( a bit of step by step help ) on how to do this?

My first though was, I have to restore it to an unjailbroken 4.0 and then simply update? ( but then again how do you restore to the unjailbroken 4.0; or in other words: how do you save and use the SHSH "files" to restore safely to 4.0; before upgrading (without problems then i hope) to just 4.1 without jailbreak)

    Thank you for your time,

    Niels

No. Just update. If you have make it mine, the things that you put up there will still be there.

Press restore it remove all traces of jailbreaking. And update your firmware.

You should always back up your iPod before restoring.

Not necessarily, restoring from backups causes some jailbroken data to be backed up along with the normal files.

    About the SHSH's Thing.
If you want to back them up (highly recommended) then use tiny umbrella.
To restore with them use the TSS server
This guide will help you with using the shsh blobs

Why? Your just putting that data back on your iPod

So when restoring; i do not have to use or locate the saved SHSH file in some way? (which is currently saved on cydia so i wouldn't be able to restore without jailbreaking because i need cydia to provide the SHSH file somewhere in the process from what ive read so far )

    edit.:
after the reading the reply above:

to be clear; it is mandatory to do this in order to restore?

Just updating will do you perfectly. SHSHes are for people that want to downgrade to a firmware that apple won't let them use anymore, or doesn't sign. When you press that update button it puts a clean version of the newest firmware on your iPod.

Is there a way to restore, then update to 4.1, but keep all of you're folders and stuff? Last time, it took me FOREVER to move everything back into their folders.

Not unless you back up, and using a jailbroken backup on a jailed device is NOT a good idea.
