Well, I have seen a lot of posts about updating to 3.1.2 and I decided to make a guide

NOTE: If you have an 8GB 3G iPod Touch, then you may want to know this before trying this tutorial:

    For jailbroken iPods:

    1. Backup your jailbroken iPod/iPhone with iTunes.

    2. Open iTunes and press "Restore". Then make sure you are restoring to 3.1.2. Now set it up from your backup.

    3. Now download blackra1n and jailbreak your iPod/iPhone by pressing "make it ra1n" and wait... If you have a 3G then you need to run this again to boot it because it's tethered and every time you restart you have to run it to boot your iPod.

    4. Now look for the blackra1n app on you iPod and install either Cydia, Icy, and/or Rock (I DO NOT recommend rock, it has problems).

    5. Your iPod/iPhone is updated and jailbroken again.

    For non-jailbroken iPods:

    1. Open iTunes.

    2. Press "Check for Update". Then update your iPod/iPhone to 3.1.2.

    3. Download blackra1n.

    4. Now download blackra1n and jailbreak your iPod/iPhone by pressing "make it ra1n" and wait... If you have a 3G then you need to run this again to boot it because it's tethered and every time you restart you have to run it to boot your iPod.

    5. Now look for the blackra1n app on you iPod and install either Cydia, Icy, and/or Rock (I DO NOT recommend rock, it has problems).

    6. You have successfully updated and jailbroken your iPod/iPhone.

    * You can also use PwnageTool if you have a Mac, then you can restore to the firmware that is jailbroken. *

For my 2g 3.1.2 iTouch, it won't reboot after I get Geohot's picture.

I've tried running it in Administrator and everything.

I didn't even get that far. Once I hit "maike it ra1n", it then went right into the 'connect to iTunes' screen.

You might want to add when you're done with Blackra1n on the computer you need to go to the app blackra1n on the iPhone/iPod and add Cydia, Icy, and/or Rock.

do you lose your old themes/3rd party apps if you are at 3.0 now and it is jailbroken and also what does it mean that it only jailbreaks and not unlock?
