hi, i have an iphone 1st generation with 1.xxx software and currently upgrading to 3.xx software. The iphone is not activated for service. I was wondering, is it possible to unlock the iphone so that i can download apps and play them on the iphone and also be able to add songs and videos without activating the iphone for service?

i'm confused. you want to unlock the phone without activating it for service? unlocking allows you to change your phones wireless carrier, completely pointless if you don't plan to use a wireless carrier. unlocking has absolutely nothing to do with playing music or using apps as far as i know.

i got it working. i had the 1st gen iphone lying around. i wanted to put it into use by putting music and getting apps onto it. don't plan on activating this one for service.
