Many people have the AIM application on their iPod Touch/iPhone. Not many of those people know, that you can text message for free with it. I have been doing this with AIM for about a year now, and it works as well as normal text messaging if not better. Now that my iPod Touch has it, I can text message almost ANYWHERE!

You are going to need the following things:
    •iPod Touch
    •Firmware 2.0
    •AIM Application (Free)

    Now simply follow these steps:

    1. Open the AIM application

    2. Go to the "Buddy List" Tab at the Bottom

    3. Tap Online

    4. Tap Edit, and then the Plus Sign

5a. For the Screenname, put +1 before the person's number. (ex.: Number is 0123456789, you would put +10123456789)

Optional 5b. For the Nickname, put the person's name, and then "phone" or Cell phone

Please Register or Log in to view images

Optional 5c. Tap "Group", and Tap "New Group" and name it "Cell Phones"

    6. Tap Save

7.Try texting that number, and you should get something like this:

NOTE: TEXT MESSAGES ONLY COST THE CELL PHONE THE REGULAR PRICE FOR TEXT MESSAGES. EXAMPLE: 5¢ a text message is 5¢ to the phone for the AIM

    Question and Answer:

Q: Why does it not work with my phone?

A: Only some phones work, and usually have never been used with something like this before, so you will get a message saying you can text to AIM the first time. That is your confirmation that it works.

If you have a Cell Phone, try it with that first.

When the person receives the text, it says:
"(From [screename here] through AIM) [Text Message Here]"
