Well given its the second gen, the batteries life would be less then that of a new device since its well over two years old

i think apple did this on purpose. they made wifi stay on, even while its locked (the only way to turn it off is to use sbsettings wifi toggle, or settings>wifi>off. i mean the only way is to actaully turn it off. wifi doesn't sleep in ios4.) apple did this so the battery life sucks (since they know the ipt2g can't handle persistent wifi for long.) they want people to buy a new device.

Can hackers create something like the 3G disabler but for wifi? It seems like a good thing to implement, I'd get it.

the persistent wifi is in the OS. they know the battery of the old device can't handle it
