I see some people confused, especially people at school and a few people I see walk into Apple. Here is how you can tell the differences. There are a few more ways in each, but these are the most simple IMO

    iPod Touch 1G: No speakers
    iPod Touch 2G: Open Settings>General>About Model=MB
    iPod Touch 3G: Open Settings>General>About Model=MC If 8GB it is a 2G!
iPod Touch 4G: Camera on front and back

    iPhone 2G: Silver back
iPhone 3G: No video camera option in Camera.app
iPhone 3GS: Compass, Video Camera toggle.
iPhone 4: All glass, square design.

Now what happens? An iPad could be good. G2 could be just around the corner.

Until the iPad 2 comes out, there are no differences. So I just left it out. People should know its a 1G

Does it really matter anymore? They have untethered jailbreak for all iDevices now.

If it really does matter, someone please explain why and ill add it. I never had a 3GS but from what I hear and see, doesn't matter anymore.
