This guide will help those that keep asking why they can't SSH into their ipod touch or iphone. I know it's getting really annoying hearing everyone's different stories. NOTE THAT YOUR DEVICE MUST BE JAILBROKEN FOR THIS TO WORK

What device do I need to SSH?
For Mac, you need terminal. For Windows, try WinSCP. Those are the two used most.

How do I get my ipod touch's IP?
Simple, click Settings > Wi-Fi. Then click the little blue arrow on your connection and grab the IP from that page.

    What's my user and password?
Username is root. Password is alpine. In rare cases, the password will be dottie.

It still won't connect to my device!
Odds are you don't have an SSH server running. Head into the install app and search for the application Open SSH. Download it. After it's completed the download and you restarted the touch, try to connect to the device again. The first time you connect, it will take 30-60 seconds.

    It STILL won't connect!
The problem is usually out of our ability to fix it then. Make sure your connecting through port 22 and that the IP is correct.

thank you... i just figured out that you put the ip address in the host name spot. when i go into the Installer app i can't find the Open SSH thing. When I jailbroke the touch i got a SSH icon that looks like a light switch on the ipod. Is that all i need?

Put the ip address of your iPod touch in the host field.

    Did you jailbreak from http://jailbreakme.com?

If you didn't, I highly suggest restoring your ipod and jailbreaking from there.

I think http://www.slovix.com/touchfree/jb is better. As it is done, SSH will be installed already. You only need to tap the SSH icon and slide the OpenSSH button to start it.

http://jailbreakme.com has the SSH Server available for download and runs automatically on ipod startup.

    No icon or anything.
