    As many people are PM'ing me about how to set up Hotmail on the iPod touch. I have decided to make my first guide.

    Ok, so as you begin, you will need a Gmail account, a iPod touch/iPhone with mail.app

    and obviously a hotmail account.

    On the computer

    -so begin with a gmail account. you can use an existing one already, but its advised to make a new one.

    -Under Settings, go to Forwarding and POP/IMAP ยป Enable IMAP. Save the changes. Under Settings and then Accounts, add another email address -- add your existing Hotmail account.

    -Now go to Hotmail. In your inbox, there should be a message from Gmail; you need to click on a link in that message. Next go to Options and set up forwarding to your new Gmail account. It's up to you whether messages are retained in Hotmail. (If you don't have an option for forwarding, you may be out of luck. Perhaps others have advice on how to get Hotmail to allow this.)

    -Back to Gmail: There should be a message from Hotmail; you need to click on a link in that message. Now back into Gmail settings, under Accounts, you should see your Hotmail email address listed. Click on the link that says Make Default. From here on, you can use Gmail as your way to check Hotmail. You actually do not need to login to Hotmail any more to read mail, you can use your Gmail account as the web-based way to check Hotmail.

    Now on you're iPod

    * Name: Your Name
    * Address: Your current hotmail.com email address
    * Description: (can be anything) "hotmail"
    * Incoming Mail Server:
    o HostName: imap.gmail.com
    o UserName: yournewaddress@gmail.com
    o Password: the password for this gmail account
    * Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com
    o UserName: yournewaddress@gmail.com
    o Password: the password for this gmail account
    * All other settings should match the defaults.

    Send a E-mail to yourself to check if it works.

    this guide should work. If You have any problems, try again and again. it will eventually work, as it did for me

    Note: this can also be used on apple's mail app for MacOSX

    freepops is a much better option, in my humble opinion. There's a guide on IPTF on how to use it (try searching for 'freepops'

    A MUCH easier way!!!!

    I'm not sure I understand all the concern here. The EASIEST way to do Hotmail or Yahoo on the iTouch is simply to open safari, type "hotmail.com" or "yahoo.com" and sign in. No expense, easy and almost effortless. Who needs an app or difficult work around for such an easy, simple process?
