    Hi Everyone,

This is my first post in this forums.

Today one of my friends gave me a preview of the developer iphone 3.0 firmware, and i was foolish enough to try it on my ipod touch. After update, itunes gave error. Hence i rebooted my ipod, placed it under restore mode, and tried to restore from a previous backup.

Now itunes is giving me error saying

The ipod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (21).

Tried many times, rebooted my mac, still the same issue. Can someone please help me and tell me how i can restore it back in working order ?

    Thanks

I guess that is what happens when you use the pirated 3.0.
Try restore it in DFU mode.

Just for more information, right now my ipod shows up a pink screen, with cable and a cd with itunes on it. Connecting to itunes shows its in recovery mode, however doesn't allow to restore any of the backups i have.

Found these instructions for entering DFU mode. Are these correct ?

    1. Hold down the Hold (top left corner) button for 3 seconds...
    2. WITHOUT releasing the HOLD button, also hold down the Home
(bottom center) button for 10 seconds...
    3. WITHOUT releasing the HOME button, release the Hold button. Keep
holding the Home button for 30 seconds...

    Still doesn't work

If you are on a Mac see here, though I am loathe to provide help to people who have installed pirated 3.0 f/w you've got your just desserts for messing around with the beta it seems.

Thanks for the reply. I know my mistake to try and load the 3.0b on it.

The link talks about putting the ipod touch in DFU mode. How do i do that ? Right now the only thing that happens on my ipod is, it has a pink background with a white usb cable and a cd below which itunes is written. No matter whatever combination i try, it starts with an apple on the black background, then this pink screen comes up. Nothing else is happening

the screen is pink because it is a beta, just install you firmware from itunes to get that off i think

I made some progress on this, however still haven't been able to restore the ipod.

Thinking it could be causing problem with a mac, i installed xp under vmware (on a linux machine), downloaded and installed itunes for windows. It asked me to restore, downloaded the firmware, and started to restore.

However during the process it aborted and gave me error 13. Any pointers on what this error means ?

    Thanks.

Any help on what the error 13 means and how it can be resolved will be highly appreciated.

Note: If it of any help, right now i am running itunes under windows xp (under vmware). Will trying over xp running on base machine make any difference ?
