I need to make a presentation on very generally removing a computer virus. Though it's a presentation based more on public speaking skills rather than the accuracy of the information, I still want to make sure it is somewhat correct.

BTW, I am talking about a typically trojan horse or virus to remove:
    Step 1 -
Usually if you are infected with a virus, you may be unable to access the internet or the virus may take over your computer.
Turn off your computer and boot into Safe Mode when your computer starts up by repeatedly pressing F8.
Safe Mode will only start up necessary system components.

    Step 2 -
Go to Control Panel -> Uninstall a program and find any programs that you have installed recently that may have caused the issue.
If you know that it was caused by something you recently downloaded, locate your Downloads folder and delete any suspicious files.

    Step 3 –
Restart your computer and go into your Task Manager

    Step 4 -

If that virus is still operating, you may find strange programs running in your Processes.
If you are unsure about whether or not a certain process is safe or not look it up on Google
End those processes if they are potentially dangerous

    Step 5 -
If you are still having issues with your computer, you will need to install additional programs to clean your computer
A program called Malwarebytes Antimalware is very helpful in accomplishing this.
You will want to install it and run the scan to find any traces of malware

    Step 6 -
In addition to Malwarebytes, you will want to get antivirus software or upgrade your current antivirus to protect yourcomputer from further attacks

    Step 7 -
Download and install a program known as CCleaner, which will remove any remaining amount of unwanted files
Run the scan and click ‘Remove’

Malware Bytes is really helpful, found a keylogger, never knew I had one til then. Never entered any credit card info, thank god.

Step 9 - Make sure that you download an Anti-Virus program (and a firewall too) to ensure that this problem does not happen again.

A few free virus programs are

    • AVG
    • Panda
    • Malware Bytes
    • System Mechanic
And a few paid ones are
    • AVG
    • System Mechanic
    • Avast (personal favourite)
    ...
    Or something along those lines..

Avast! is a pretty decent Antivirus program. I strongly advise that you do not use Norton. Norton blows, your network will disconnect like every five minutes...

And you can never properly remove it from your computer, it will just remove it from sight, you will have to FORMAT YOUR HDD before it is fully gone.

I told my parents not to buy Norton, what do they do, they buy Norton... They said "Oh, the guy said it's the best!" Bullsh*t... -_- Now, when they go on the computer, network disconnects constantly.

Make sure to do a system restore while in safe mode. A good antivirus is Microsoft Security Essentials.
