Most iPhone users have no need for the contacts application because eVerything it does can be done by the Phone application. In 4.0, not sure about other firmwares, apple put a string of code in te N82AP.plist that when changed, allows you to "hide" the contacts app from the homescreen.

    The string is stand-alone-contacts

Change the value from true to false.

Sorry I'm not being more descriptive, I'm typing this from my iPhone.

I don't own an iPhone, but why would you wanna hide the contacts app? If my contacts were gone....I would be so upset....

Contacts also come up in the phone app, making the contacts app itself basically pointless.

Or you could just use Poof...

Or you could just use SBsettings...

Not only is it a whole list, but it has -all- the functionality of the Contacts app (editting and the likes), plus you can access Favourites, Voicemails, Dial, etc from the bar at the bottom too. Much more convenient, and I guess the Contacts app was there to help iTouch users transist to the iPhone. :/

During a phone call, you must use the Contacts button on the phone call screen as hitting the home button and trying to view contacts by going to Phone will only result in the phone call screen being brought back up. Keeping Contacts on your springboard could be helpful to some.

agreed. I've used that to look up numbers for people while on the phone with them.
