iOS 4.0 How to make my file and ipsw?

    okay i downloaded a new proper apple firmware from this site for my iPod touch so i could jailbreak with jailbreakme.

    Problem is, i dont know how to change the file into an ipsw?

    Dont convert it. Go to iTunes shift+restore and browse the file.

    i did, but it wont let me restore with it.

    Oh, then Apple stopped signing 4.0. Bad luck.

    thats incorrect
    go to control panel and lookfor folder options
    click the view tab
    then uncheck "hide extensions for known file types"
    that folder you have should end in .zip
    just change the zip to ipsw

    if you have windows 7 or vista you can type "folder options" in the start menu search box
