Okay. for this Tutorial that many people have been asking for i am Going to use Adobe Photoshop CS2.

    Lets go into it.

Note: Picture correspond to the Text above it
For Images that are Too Small Left Click and "View Image" to View at Full Size

First off, open a New File with these Settings:

Go the the Middle Layer and select the "Draw Square" tool, and make sure its set to "Fill Pixels" like this in the upper left corner.

Then Select a white fill and hold Shift+Drag to make a perfect square from one corner to the other.*Remember to leave room for Drop Shadows and such*

Now. select the Layer Above it and Do the same thing, but with a black fill, and make sure it is smaller than the other one as this will be the space within the Border.*there is another method, but i dont want to get into that right now*

Now go the the layer you just drew a black square on and right click-blending options. Go to Gradient Overlay and plug in these settings to start. (once you get comfortable with this, you can start changing the settings around and messing with the colors as well.)

Please Register or Log in to view images

Then go to the Stroke option and Select a color slightly darker then the Gradient Overlay Fill, and plug in the settings(Those settings are true for any Avatar. the only Think you should change is the Color)

Please Register or Log in to view images

After those settings it should look something like this

Please Register or Log in to view images

Now go Back to the Middle Layer which was the White Square(Border) and go to Blending Options. Go to Bevel and Emboss and fill in these Settings(These Settings should Not be Changed. Maybe slightly to get a deeper shadow, but keep the Base the Same)

Please Register or Log in to view images

No go to the Drop shadow and fill in these settings to Give your Avatar some Depth.(Again, should not be drastically altered)

Please Register or Log in to view images

    and you are DONE!

other then that you can mess with more layers to create Shadows like in this Picture Below

I will, as soon as I finish my current avatar project

I don't make avatars in Photoshop because I design each one as a new one, without having any resemblance to anyone elses

I make them in a secret program of mine
