[HOW-TO] Jailbreak your iDevice with limera1n

    This is for limera1n RC1 BETA3.

(I made this because the one lolmao made wasn't as clear. The moderators/admins can delete this if there is one already made.)

    RC1 BETA3 fixes 3G problems.

Supported Devices: iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G, possibly Apple TV 2G

DO NOT USE LIMERA1N IF YOU USE THE ULTRASN0W CARRIER UNLOCK — wait for PwnageTool to incorporate the limera1n exploit. This is so that you can avoid updating your baseband and losing the unlock (possibly forever).

    1. Download the jailbreak @ www.limera1n.com

1a. Direct link: WINDOWS Download Here.

    MAC: None yet

    LINUX: None yet

    2. Plug in your iDevice.

    3. Press 'make it ra1n'

    4. Follow the instructions in the text box that was previously 'make it ra1n.' This is to put the iDevice into DFU mode, since the exploit resides in the DFU. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

4a. The instructions are like any other guides on how to put your iDevice into DFU mode.

    5. Once you've seen the green droplet, a text box comes up on your computer, and the iDevice turns off, it is now jailbroken.

    6. Turn on the iDevice.

    7. Press the limera1n app(it's a white box).

    8. Install Cydia, limera1n will look like it 'crashed.'

    9. Restart your iDevice, and your iDevice should have Cydia installed. The white box should be replaced with the green droplet now, but that doesn't matter

    .

    10. You may delete the limera1n app by going into the limera1n app once again, and pressing the 'Uninstall limera1n icon.'

    10. You NEED to delete the app via SSH. It does not delete via in-app.

    Congratulations! You are now jailbroken!

Make sure to install afc2add and openSSH if you mess up Cydia! Or else you will need to restore your iDevice to fix Cydia.

    Credits: (I guess...)
geohot for releasing the exploit and for clearing up why there was a white box and how to install Cydia.
    me for making the guide.

Do I Have To Restore My iPhone 3GS to Factory Settings Without Any Apps?
OR Can It Work Even If I Don't Restore?

This one isn't a custom firmware, so you shouldn't need to restore.

Ok. So If I Jailbreak Straight Away - All My Apps Will Still Be There?
What do you recommend? Restore To 4.1 & Jailbreak or Just Jailbreak?

I would recommend backing up all your apps, music, and everything else you need if anything goes wrong. If something DOES go wrong, you can restore, jailbreak, then reload all your apps onto your 3G
