    were they directed to me?

    I'm on Mac
    and i can't downgrade.

    everytime i downgrade i'm getting errors...the usual 1601/1600/20's.
i can almost guarantee that i've tried downgrading my touch for over 24 hours if you accumulate all the time spent.

i've searched everywhere and in most cases, the answers are just "make sure you're in dfu mode" or "you are not in dfu mode".

but seriously, no dock/itunes logo. black screen. "ipod in recovery mode, please restore" popup in itunes. if that is not dfu mode then what can it be?

recovery mode would have the dock/itunes logo...but mine's just a black screen.

and when i bought my touch it was on 3.0 firmware. it's 8gb so it's guaranteed to be 2G.

    anyone please help?

Thanks! Tutorial worked great. Was stuck forever without the tutorial because I didn't know DFU mode and Recovery mode were two different things! Haha.

I'm on a mac too, I had to boot into windows, install iTunes 8.2 and I was able to downgrade from there.

    wow really?
i tried to before but i accidentally installed itunes 9.
so i did a system restore to make sure that there were no itunes 9 scraps left behind, but instead it screwed up any further installations of itunes 9.

and because my windows bootcamp was fairly empty and useless, i decided to delete the bootcamp just then.

    were you on vista?

i'll install vista on bootcamp again now.

mind if i keep in contact with you on this thread/messages?

    Thanks.

    ---Edit---

just tried downgrading an iPod touch 2g 8gb 3.1.1 to 3.0 on a newly formatted vista bootcamp with itunes 8.2 and it didn't work.

all i got was 1601 errors.
tried using all released 2g ipod touch firmwares (other than 3.1.1) and they all gave the same error.

Without reading or thinking I upgraded to 3.1.1 (7C145) from a jailbroken 3.0....does that mean I have to wait for a redsn0w for windows? I'm really confused....do I need to downgrade? ugh

I downgraded to 3.0 (not 3.1) using iTunes 8.2 in Windows 7. Then I jailbroke 3.0 in Snow Leopard using Redsnow.

Once you have a jailbroken 3.0, then you follow this guide.

Did you try restoring while your ipod was in DFU mode? Try Recovery mode too. Sorry man, I can't be of any more help. Hope you get it working.

yeah i'm sure it was in DFU mode because the screen was black when there was the popup in itunes.

i'll try both after i get my windows 7 bootcamp working in about an hour and i'll post the result.

    thanks.

    ---Edit---

umm, as i kind of expected, error 1601 and error 1602's
    sigh...

Will there ever be a 3.1.1 jailbreak for 3.1.1 2g ipod touches?

Pwnage tool stuck at finding the ipsw file. I'm on Snow Leopard. Any ideas? Now i'm downloading the new ipsw again. See if it works.

UPDATE: LOLZ. It wasn't stucking, it was actually checking the ipsw file. My mistake :D
