    VM4 INSTALLATION 1.1.1 and 1.1.2

This is simply a rewrite of the official installation guide, which I find a little better worded and organized a tad better. It isn't that I'm a huge fan of this theme. In fact, I don't like the look of Vista. I simply wrote this because many people are having trouble installing it.

    Requirements
    • Jailbroken iPod touch with OpenSSH
    • SSH Client
    • Computer
    • Categories
    • Customize
    • Summerboard
    • Ants
    • Finder

REMEMBER TO MAKE A BACKUP FOR EVERYTHING, JUST IN CASE!

    VISTA MAXIMUS
    1.1.1 & 1.1.2 ONLY

    FILE 1: Dock Icon PSDS
    - This is simply photoshop files for those that want to make custom dock icons.

FILE 2: Vista Maximus - Theme Base
    - You need to install this first.

    • -------------------------
    • 3. CARRIER ICONS
      -------------------------

      - These are the default carrier icons.

      - INSTALLATION: To Install, place the files FSO_CARRIER_IPOD.png and Default_Carrier_IPOD.png into /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app via SSH, but NOT the FSO_CARRIER_IPOD (2).png file.

      - ALTERNATE INSTALLATION: For the alternate installation, you need to have Customize installed. To Install, place the "vistamax" folder into /private/var/root/Library/Customize/CarrierImages vis SSH, so you can change it from within Customize. Remember, you must change permissions to 755, so that Customize can read the files and change it for you.

      ----------------------
    • 4. OTHERARTWORK
      ----------------------

      - Turns the spinning circle/loading icon in the status bar to the Aero busy icon.

      - INSTALLATION: Simply place the other.artwork file in /System/Library/Frameworks/UIKit.framework via SSH.

      • [*]SAFARI
        - Skins Safari to look like IE 7.

        - INSTALLATION: Place all images into /private/var/Applications/MobileSafari.app via SSH.

      ------------------
      [*]5. CATEGORIES
      ------------------

      - BEFORE YOU START: Before you start installing the Categories section, you must configure Categories to "Use Background", "Left-Right Scrolling", and "Hide Last Row" switched to ON, and "Hide Title" turned OFF

      - INSTALLATION:
      1. Place all images into /private/var/Applications/Categories.app/icons.
      2. Now, on your iPod, open Categories and create a new category and name it MAIN (Just for now, you can rename it later.)
      3. Still in Categories, create two more categories.
      4. We're going to call them SUB1 and SUB2.
      5. Add all of your icons with the exceptions of MAIN, Safari, SUB1, or SUB2.
      6. This is because we want those on our desktop.
      7. Now put SUB1 and SUB2 into MAIN, leaving only Safari and MAIN on your Springboard.
      8. If you have anything else on your Springboard, hide it with Customize.
      9. SSH into your iPod and go to /private/var/Applications.
      10. Place background.png from the MAINICONBACK folder to MAIN.
      11. Go to /private/var/Applications and copy background.png from the SUBICONBCAK folder to SUB1 and SUB2.
      12. Congratulations! You finished the Categories part!

      -------------------
      [*]6. CUSTOMIZE
      -------------------

      - Black Glass LCD
Place the file backup.png in /private/var/Applications/Calculator.app and name it LCDBackground.png.

      - Green Glass Calculator
Place the file backup.png in /private/var/Applications/Calculator.app and name it CalculatorBackground.png.

      - Vista Maximus Bat
To install the battery, place the folder "vista maximus bat" in /private/var/root/Library/Customize/BatteryImages. Then, set the battery in Customize.

      ---------------
    • ANTS MOD
      ---------------

      - The Ants Mod is a modification of the Ants application for a wandering mouse on your iPod's screen. You won't be able to control it, but it looks cool! You MUST have Ants installed for this to work.

      - INSTALLATION: Place all of the files in the "ants" folder in /usr/local/share/ants via SSH.

      --------------------
    • APP MENU ICONS
      --------------------

      - This will replace .png files within Finder, Installer, and Music Player. If you don't have Finder, install that if you want to use the Finder part. It is also called MobileFinder.

      - INSTALLATION: Place all the .png images from the "Finder," "Installer," and "MobileMusicPlayer" folders into the folders of the same name in var/root/applications on your iPod. If they are not showing up as folders, and you cannot get the .pngs from them here.

      -----------------------------
    • LEOPARD THEME EMULATOR
      -----------------------------

      - This simulates a Leopard Theme on the 2nd page of your Springboard. Categories must be installed and you must have a lot of blank apps [See Below] for this.

      - INSTALLATION:
      1. Install Blank Apps and Categories. Now, unhide enough of the Blank Apps with Customize to get Categories in the top left position on the second page. If your Categories will only show up on the right side, just unhide another blank app and it will move it.

      2. Unhide/Arrange 7 Blank Apps AFTER the Categories icon.
      It should look like

Please Register or Log in to view images

. The red squares are where the Blank Spacer Applications are.

      3. Put 4 icons below the 7 Blank Apps. These will be in your dock.

      4. You need to make the icons that you put in your dock invisible. To do this, use the Settings.png icon in the Leopard Theme Emulator folder for each of the applications' icons. This will make their icons invisible.

      5. Then, make the Categories icon the "Categories.png" located in the Leopard Theme Emulator folder.

      6. It should look like this.

      ---------------------
    • LOGIN WALLPAPER
      ---------------------

      - INSTALLATION: Install LegitHK's Invisible Tapper here. This will enable you to tap on the tapping areas to "login." Then place the login wallpapers /Library/Wallpaper via SSH.

      -----------------------
    • MUSIC PLAYER MOD
      -----------------------

      INSTALLATION:
      1. Place the file from the MobileMusicPlayer.app in /private/var/root/Applications/MobileMusicPlayer.app via SSH.

      2. Place the files from the "MoviePlayerUI.framework" folder in /System/Library/Frameworks/MoviePlayerUI.framework via SSH.

      3. Place all files from the "doubletapwhileplayin" folder in /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app via SSH.

      ---------------
    • NOTES SKIN
      ---------------

      - This skins the "Notes" application to look like Microsoft Word.

      - INSTALLATION: Place all the .pngs from the "MSWord(notes skin)" folder in /private/var/root/Applications/MobileNotes.app. Place the file from the "summerboard icon" folder in /private/var/root/Applications/MobileNotes.app and rename it to icon.png.

      -------------------------
    • SHORTCUT ICON MODS
      -------------------------

      - This makes Categories look like shortcuts by adding the Windows Vista shortcut arrow.

      - INSTALLATION: Simply open a png used as an icon, and copy the shorcut image to the bottom left corner. There is no need for PhotoShop or anything fancy like that. Paint or Preview will work fine, but you must create the icon before creating the category.

      ------------------
    • SIDEBAR MOD
      ------------------

      - This modification simulates Windows Sidebar. The "v1" folder is for users who have "Skip Last Row" set in Summerboard. The "v2" folder is for users who use all rows on the Springboard.

      - "v1" INSTALLATION: These are simply the icons for the "Clock," "Calendar," and "Weather" applications. Set the icons to the applications, and rearrange apps with Spacer Apps [Below] so that Calendar is the 4th icon slot from the left on the top row.

      - "v2" INSTALLATION: These are simply the icons for the "Clock," "Calendar," "Photos," and "Weather" applications. Set the icons to the applications, and rearrange apps with Spacer Apps [Below] so that Calendar is the 4th icon slot from the left on the 3rd row.

      -----------------
    • SPACER APPS
      -----------------
      - These are just blank applications that don't do anything to make it look like your Springboard (Desktop) icons can be put in rows, like in Vista.

      - INSTALLATION: Place about 10 of these blank applications in /private/var/root/Applications via SSH. Then in Customize, you can hide and reorder them in order to align your icons up and down, like in the real Windows Vista Desktop.

      - NOTE: If an application lines up on the right of the screen, and you want it on the left, you don't have enough blank apps. Just go in Customize and unhide another Blank application, and it will move it to the left side.

Using Spacer Apps, The Sidebar Mod, Icons, and the Shortcut Icon Mod, your iPod should look a little bit like the picture below, without my dock and the VM status bar.

    Nice guide!
The only thing that doesn't work for me is the background.png in Categories. I still got the same background as before -.-
Can you tell me why it is like that? I've got the right directory, but there's no change...

    @ EvilEye
Open Categories. Then go to Preferences. Turn On "Use Background Img". Then Respring. That should do the trick.

Oh.. okay. So the categories icon is the leopard emulator, and then the bottom icons are regularly the dock icons? Okay! Cool. I'll add that.
