I posted this before, but I'm new, so I accidentally posted in the wrong section and didn't get any replies.

Does this sound like a good plan to save money on my iPhone bill?

My plan to cut the usual $70 bill was to buy the iPhone and get it signed up with T-Mobile. Then I'd sign up for their smartphone web-ONLY plan (which is $40 or $50 a month, I can't remember which). I have WiFi at home, so I'd use their 3g web for when I'm on the go.

I can get an app to send text messages and a VoIP app to make calls (jailbreaking and getting the 3g unrestrictor app will make this possible).

Does this sound like a good plan to get calling, texting, and web on my iPhone for a discounted price? Or have others tried this out and it didn't work out for them? I can't see how this wouldn't work unless T-Mobile had bad web service in my area.

You can't make VoIP calls over 3G, but I'm not entirely sure about that. I've just heard that. I guess you could use a texting app, yeah. Textfree Unlimited is free and has no yearly plan anymore. You can get Line2 and make it a phone, which you have to pay like 10-15$ a month for. So, don't get Line2 then. Haha.

You can make VoIP over 3g. Skype does that now. And maybe Fring.

You CAN make VoIP calls with Skype.

However, you can only use EDGE with T-Mobile.
You can't use Skype unless you're on Wi-Fi or 3G.
EDIT: You actually can on EDGE, but the quality may not be the best.
    At least it works, though.

So, texting would be a go (TextNow, Google Voice (web), TextFree), but calling may not pan out as well.

That's why I mentioned 3g unrestrictor. It allows apps that usually aren't allowed to work over 3g internet work. It tricks those apps into thinking they are working over WiFi.

Are you saying T-Mobile doesn't have 3g internet, but only EDGE? Crap, looks like I'm SOL.

Why is what so expensive? The web only plan? Even if it is, it's still better than paying $70 and up a month for the same features.

^ T-mobile does have 3G, but the frequency is different than AT&T's and the iPhone does NOT support it.

The unlimited data plan for T-Mobile is $20 a month.
