**EDIT**. This is for all FW users (except 2.0 beta), but it is not a garuntee with 1.1.4. (after reading replies on this thread) i HAVE NOT tested it on 1.1.4, but it seems like it would still work. if you got this right after installing a keyboard, that is because you are on 1.1.2 and keyboards only support 1.1.1/3/4 right now. You need to search for the 2 keyboard files around this forum and replace them on your ipod. then reboot. anyways back to everyone else- there have been tons of threads going, " I got the spinning circle!!!! my ipod wont do anything!!! i dont wanna restore again!!!!!! GAHHHH!!!" chill out! its ok. the most common reasons for this is that you installed or messed with an option on an app that more than one app is trying to control your summerboard. ex. customize, CATEGORIES, or smb prefs. categories has been known to have alot of bugs when it comes to hiding apps and such, mostly on 1.1.3/4 fw. if your reading this, and your ipod is fine, please please do this for your own sake! - im serious. do this now. you will thank me so much. and yourself for doing it. anyways, ssh into your ipod and go to /system/library/core services/springboard.app. find N45AP.plist. its the file that tells your ipod what apps goes where on your home screen. copy it to a location on your computer that you will remember, for backup. even if you dont think youll need it, better safe than sorry. so that if you get that stupid spinning circle and your ipod doesnt load for some reason, you wont have to restore. BUT, If you ARE in a world of pain right now, if you can do what i explain, your going to be fine! -without restoring. WHAT YOU NEED: -ssh, winscp, total commander, or however you get into your ipod files. even though you have the spinning circle, everything is really running. you should be able to connect. and where, you ask? specifically what i just said above. (system/library/core services/springboard.app.) -a N45AP.plist. now, if you had all your cute little icons perfectly how you wanted before this stupid incident, thats not coming back. your going to have to use a new one, and all your icons will be scrambled up. (if you have one somewhere on your computer, use it, otherwise i have one for you at the bottom of this thread.) Theres not much to do to fix this. once you have a N45AP.plist file you know is good, (ex not like the one thats screwing your ipod up thats giving you the spinning wheel), just take it and overwrite the bad one currently on your ipod. once there, best to set permissions to 755. and your. DONE! you may not even have to restart the ipod, i just kept pressing home and it showed up when i fixed my friends. I hope this fixed your ipod, if not, give it another try with another N45AP.plist. if all else fails, go to http://iorderapp.googlepages.com/download. thats where you get the iOrder program for your COMPUTER. use it to arrange your icons however you want (its a little outdated with the icons) but it doesnt matter. throw them around, and save it. it will make a .plist file. use that to make one yourself. *****edit*** also, as dhredsox has mentioned, if that doesnt work go in and delete the last app that you have installed and restart. that may fix it. thanks for mentioning that. anything i missed, mention it! anyways, good luck! moderators, if you can, move or copy this to the ipt tech help section, alot of people probably are ina world of pain and dont know about this. and i dont wanna copy this into that and have people flame about me posting this twice.
