In finder make it go to folder, /etc, then go to the hosts and change it.

The /ect folder is hidden, you will have to enter the command

    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE

in the terminal to reveal all hidden files. To edit the hosts file I use a text editing app called Textwrangler.

    1.) open Terminal
    2.) sudo nano /etc/hosts
3.) edit, then press Control-X to save

no hassle; no bullsh*t with Finder permissions/visibility
