    Download files from the Web

Well folks it looks like it's getting there closer and closer. This method i'm about to show you is a simple and easy method of downloading files from the web to your iPod.

There is this program called HistoryDL it downloads the history from the safary web browser you are allowed to pick something that you have accessed in the hitsory and it gets downloaded to /var/root/Media/EBooks/. However you can change that location by editing the savepath.txt located in HistoryDL.app to one that satisfy's you.

    1. Download the HistoryDL Application attached to this thread or add this to your source and find the HistoryDL Application in the installer.
    - Repository: [http://hpcgi3.nifty.com/moyashi/ipodtouch/repository.cgi]

    2. Navigate to a website and click on file that usually downloads or even a mp3 song that you listen to from the we like http://www.seeqpod.com/, or any site that you've accessed a file with a filetype.
    Example:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/listentomenow.mp3
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/videoyaydownloadme.mp4
    and so forth...

    3. Now click the home button navigate to the HistoryDL Application and find the file you accessed or were about to download but was prompted "Safari Can't Download This File".
IMG_9006.jpg Usually when blanked out indicates a file
IMG_90092.jpg The data there shows the file type being downloaded
IMG_9012.JPG Sometimes there isn't always the filetype shown.
    4. Click download and wait till the file finish downloading you will know that when the download button is not pressed in anymore and has been released.
    IMG_9009.jpg Click the Download Button
    5. Navigate to the /var/root/Media/EBooks folder to find the file you download.
    screeshot.jpg Via SSH

    IMG_9011.JPG Via Apache Web Server

    6. You can change this location to be accessible by Apache server or change apache server to make it's homepage /var/

Note with apache server you can access the file by listening to it or watching it.

Do Enjoy Downloading files from the web.

How to Enable Apache Server to start in iPod Root

If you would like when you finished installing apache server from the installer app to have the ability to type in 127.0.0.1 and let it go straight to the root of your iPod Instead of Webserver/Documents:
    1. Download the httpd.conf file attached. DOWNLOAD
    1b. Extract the file
    2. SSH into ipod /etc/httpd
    3. Drag in the new httpd.conf replacing the old one
    4. Write Permissions
    5. Reboot iPod or use sysinfo to kill all httpd processes (usually 3 of them).

Go into Safari and type in 127.0.0.1 and it should go to Mr.Root Enjoy!

Please note to install Apache Server from the Installer.app

    Change Download Location

    1. Download the savepath.txt file DOWNLOAD
    2. SSH Into your iPod
    3. Navigate to the Applications folder
    4. Navigate to the HistoryDL.app folder
    5. Drag the downloaded file replacing the older file
    6. Set Permissions
    7. Reboot the iPod or Respring i tried reboot and it work not sure about respring.

Files will now be downloaded to /var/root/Media/Downloads Enjoy.

Credits to: moyashi for creating the app.

This is nice cause i downloaded a zip file of like 40 songs just went into finder and extract them all and now went into safari and navigated to the folder and i'm now listening to them. So it's pretty nice for now do enjoy.

What does this allow us to do:
Use seeqpod as our limewire music program for music only

Please Register or Log in to view images

use the concept on this use the search feature click the song you want to download let it play for one second then click back and then click home then go to the HistoryDL app find the blank that when you click it it shoulds a seeqpod link. Click download and it should take a while to download unless you have fast internet or clicked the wrong file to download.

This concept should help us get closer to what some people are aiming for well this works good enough for me i can download any file form the web on my ipod.

this is awsome but I wish it would play mp3 and mp4 files once downloaded without manually syncing with a computer

Hhhm maybe we could make the file a cache so safari would open the page and it would already be there fully loaded

It could just install apache server and navigate through the mobile safari and click on the file and it will play in quicktime with out the need of a computer. If you need some help with that just tell me and i'll help you out no worries at all.

Note to all i will soon add a second part at the bottom on how to change the httpd.conf file so apache server when you type in 127.0.0.1 into your web browser will take you to the root of your iPod.

Edit: I loaded up a second part tutorial to enable Apache Server to start from your root. If you would like to CHAnge the download folder just edit the path.txt tile in the HistoryDL.app FOlder located in Applications

i think that this is an amazing start but so far not worth it because you cant use the files straight off the web you have to do stuff with the comp first

Have you even tried to work something out?

Try this? install Finder. Download an mp3. Access finder. Find the mp3. Play it.

Try it. If you don't know what your talking about please don't talk.
