    Yes, it worked.

    To clear things up:

My ipod touch 2g running 3.1.3 firmware was able to downgrade without the need of host file changing or downloading anything other than the firmware 3.1.2 itself.

The 2G is able to do that anyway. The MC 3G is not.

Firmware download link removed - sorry we don't allow links to paid firmwares.

Looks as though Coca Cola's very simple method is working :) I'm off to watch some Dexter, bbl too...

If Dodi says it works that's confirmation enough for me.

Glad to see it's working for you all :)

My theory: If the 2G Firmware successfully works, seems like iTunes is programmed to classify the 8GB 3G as a 8GB 2G. Which allows it to use a 2G firmware, as only the bootrom has changed.

    2 possibilitys why this works.

1st. The Hardware.. because its complete the same as the 2rd Gen.
2nd. Is a mix of the 1st reason and ofcurse because of Apple isnt Sign the 2nd Gen Firmware. So i havent checked yet.. but it could be possible to do the same with a lower Firmware. 3.0 or 3.1 .
But as i said havent checked yet.. but the chances are high.

Could be great for testing purposes.
