How to do this text effect?

    I think it has a little emboss going down.

    its grey text with a very small white drop shadow at 90 degrees (or a small contour, whatever works better for you) and then the BG is just a simple gradient or a rounded rectangle with a small drop shadow, also at 90 degrees

    Or, it's just a Dark Gray color font with another White color font underneath, just down one pixel and to the right one pixel to create that drop shadow effect.

    basically, its a shadow. and a shadow is just a copied version of a layer that is offset and usually blurred. Usually shadows are black too, but this is white to create a 3d bevel effect

    Exactly. I do it a lot. Although, I prefer Layer Styles drop shadows.

    no it would be a pain in the a$$ to manually create shadows when a simple styles menu does it for you. I was just explaining what is done to create the shadow
