I am not sure if this is legal, and do not want to risk my membership on ipod Touch fans, sorry for the inconvenience.

Well that is a fantastic how to, I know exactly how to do it.

We were discussing this in another thread. You didn't have to take what we said and make a new thread.

And so how does this work with the real beat of the song... wouldn't you just be listening to a song and tapping to a different beat?

Well, the key to creating custom songs is understanding the .tap files.
    Why don't we start there?
Replacing a song is easy enough, but this seems a bit difficult.

The file should start with comment lines identifying it, as such:
    Code:
    #title Tap Tap Tap
    #artist DJ Tapulous
    #id 30001

The first two lines are obvious, but the third line seems to relate to difficulty.
The first number seems to designate the position in the listing and the last number is the difficulty (1,2,3, or 4)
The position does not seem to hold true for the downloaded tracks, however..
They seem to have a leading 1 and then a higher number.

The note lines seem to be weird, I'd have to look at them more.
All I know is that a shake comes at the end of a line, as such:
    Code:
    271.000000, 400.000000, 4.000000, 3
    52.000000, 400.000000, 6.000000, 1
    271.000000, 400.000000, 8.000000, 3
    52.000000, 400.000000, 10.000000, 0

This pattern would give a right shake, left shake, right shake, and then a note on the red line.

    EDIT:
Upon reviewing the .tap more, the middle value seems to always be 400, except in the tutorial, which is 418.
The first value may also designate the line; 52 being red, 160 being green, and 271 being blue..

Lol couldn't people 'edit' these files and upload it to their jailbroken ipod. Then their score would be rigged and would therefore destroy the integrity of online scoring.

    @Your edited post:
How is it any more illegal than installing third-party applications to your iPod?
The process itself is definately not illegal, but the content you choose to upload may well be illegal.
It's like pwnage - the tool itself is fine, but you can't share those ipsw files, can you?
