Okay, a lot of people have been asking about how to create a custom boot logo for the 2G iPod touch without having to do a full restore.
I have put together a tool for this reason.

    Requirements:
Make sure you are already jailbroken.
2G 2.2.1 NOR-ONLY Restore, Make Sure Its Untethered.
applelogo.s5l8720x.img3, Found in "Firmware/all_flash/all_flash.n72ap.production/" of the 2.2.1 firmware.
    And the attached files.

    Guide:

    Rename "applelogo.s5l8720x.img3" to "BOOT.IMG3"
    Create your boot image.
    Save it as a PNG.
Make sure at lease 1 pixel is transparent.
Make sure the PNG is <300 kb.
Make sure the PNG is 320x480 or below.
Move BOOT.IMG3 into the "Files" Folder.
Rename your firmware to "Untethered" keep the IPSW extension.
Move the firmware into the same folder as the "MAKE BOOT LOGO.BAT"
Move your logo to the same folder as the "MAKE BOOT LOGO.BAT"
Drag and drop the logo onto the bat file.
Wait for the process to complete, the command window will close.

Shift click restore to the FW.IPSW.

    Enjoy, Hopefully...!

    O Rly?

Maybe easier, but in no way better, well maybe a few. BUT! This is the stripped down tool that can be used without having to download a large GUI.
    Furthermore, you WILL be sorry
