I just jailbroke my iPod touch 2.2 firmware, and customize isn't letting me change system strings. It just shows a blank page. Is there a way to change the system strings via SSH?

    You betcha!
    SSH in to:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/English.lproj
    Then edit the SpringBoard.strings
The slide to unlock string in there is AWAY_LOCK_LABEL then chagne the string below that key. There are numerous other ones but you can just search them with Ctrl+F or Cmd+F.

    Hi all!
I've an 2.1 ipod touch. whenever I change springboard.strings even by one letter, the labels go crazy, such as my unlock screen AWAY_LOCK_LABEL
All I did was to find 'slide to unlock' writing and change it. Any suggestions what I am doing wrong? BTW, my original springboard.strings file looks completely diffrent than any other previous version, a simple "AWAY_LOCK_LABEL" = "slide to ...."; kinda string file is not working somehow.

The SpringBoard.strings file on the iPod in the directory iptf browser named is encoded. It's easier just to let WinterBoard replace the Strings file for you... which you can do if you get the theme listed in the "How to Remove 'Slide to Unlock' text' post in the Tutorials forum.

Well, winterboard was the very first thing I tried, and it never worked on my ipod touch. (just the strings, the rest of it is working fine)
