If you've gotten a new iDevice that's on iOS4 or just updated to iOS4 then it's a good time to backup your SHSH sigs with TinyUmbrella!

TinyUmbrella is Umbrella and TinyTSS combined into one program. If you don't know what those programs are here's a breif description:

Why would I do this? This is to ensure that your can restore back to 4.0 when Apple stops signing it and there isn't a jailbreak for let's say 4.1.

    What you need:
    iTunes 9 - 9.2
    TinyUmbrella Windows Mac

Devices that need to be backed up:
    -iPhone 4
    -iPhone 3GS
    -iPod Touch 3G
    -iPod Touch 2G(MC)

    Saving SHSH Blobs
    - Double click on umbrella-4.00.06
    - Press "Save My SHSH"
    - Type in your ECID in the ECID box
    - Download your SHSH files to your computer
    - Keep the file in a safe spot for later use

    Hosting your SHSH Files(Windows)
    - Double click on umbrella-4.00.06
    - Press "Start TSS Server"
    - Go to "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc" if your on Windows find your host files
    - Put "127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com" into the host file
    - Now save the file
    - Your Done.

    Hosting your SHSH Files(Mac)
    1.a Launch Terminal.app from Applications>Utilities>Terminal.
1.b To open Hosts file in Terminal, type: sudo nano /private/etc/hosts then hit return/enter key.
1.c At the bottom empty line, copy and paste to Hosts file in Terminal: 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
1.d Now do the following using your keyboard keys: PressCtrl + O (as in Orange), hit Return/Enter key once, then Ctrl + X. This combination keys will saved and exit your modified Hosts file.
1.e While the Terminal is still open and you’ve already exited the hosts file, type: dscacheutil -flushcache and hit return/enter key.
Your done editing the Hosts file. Move on to Step 2.
Whoever has a Mac or Linux can you please made directs on Hosting SHSH files for your OS?

I currently have a 2nd gen iPod touch jailbroken at 3.1.3 firmware. I tried to backup my SHSH for 3.1.3 but it said that "the device isn't eligible for the build requested."

Anyone know why it won't let me backup my current firmware's SHSH?

Hey yeah you don't need to change the hosts file as long as you hit start tss server.

You can't get shsh blobs for anything less than 4.0 now because apple doesn't sign the firmware. But on the other hand, you have a 2g iPod, you don't need shah blobs for anything.
