Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out if I can settle for an 8GB Touch or if I should go ahead and get a bigger one?

My music library will probably never get bigger than 2GB worth of music (according to my computer, which has right at 600 songs), and video is a "most likely not, but maybe once in a blue moon"...

I know this is a hard question to answer because "it all depends on what apps I choose to download"... but about how many apps and games can I expect to put on the rest of the iPod?

Here's an idea... post how much memory you have on your Touch (8GB, 16, 32, or 64), how many songs, how many apps, and amount of free space. Also, do you have just enough space, too much, or do you wish you could have gotten a bigger Touch?

    8GB iPod Touch 2Gen.

    7 GB Available.
    694 Songs = 3.64 GB
    12 Movies/TV Shows = 1.02 GB
    5 Podcasts = 271.7 MB
    39 Apps/Games = 1.02 GB
    20 Photos = 12.3 MB
Other (no idea what that is) = 359.7 MB
    672.7 MB Free.

You will be amazed at how small these apps really are!

I plan on upgrading to the new 32GB model so i can fit more videos though.

I think you will be fine with an 8GB capacity.

    7.08GB Available.
    806 songs - 5.18GB

    0 podcasts - 0GB
    9 apps/games - 277.7MB
    48 photos - Unknown

I used to have a 16GB, but that died, and if/when I get a new one, it will be 32GB.

    8gb 2nd generation iPod touch:

    Capacity : 7.0gb
    Songs: 1127
    Photos: 17
    Videos: 0
    Applications: 18
    Available 120 mb

    I desperately wish I had gotten a 32gb or at least a 16gb.
However, I think 8gb should be enough for you.

    485 songs - 128kbps AAC
    16 songs - 320kbps MP3
193 songs - 256kbps Purchased AAC audio file

    Total = 694 songs / 3.64 GB

    Why do you ask?
The 128kbps AAC sounds pretty decent.
When i get my 32GB iTouch i will probably load the original 320kbps MP3 files since i will have the extra space.

It does really depend on what you want. Are you so sure that your music library won't grow?

I currently have a 16Gb iPhone but wish that I had 32Gb (I gave my 32Gb Touch to the wife when I got my phone). Now, instead of fitting all of my music onto my phone, I find I have to be very selective (I still have a decent amount of music on there, but I have to change it every now and then!).

Also, it does depend on what apps you are planning on installing. For instance, I'll be installing an app tonight which rolls in at over 300Mb. Granted, a lot fall under the 10Mb limit, but there are still those which are huge!

    I've got a 32GB 1g.

    3666 songs (15.46 GB)
    38 videos (6.26 GB)
    521 pictures (332.2 MB)
    66 applications (1.09 GB)

    Free space - 6.5 GB

I probably could have gotten along fine with a 16GB, but I like having space for everything. If I were to get a new touch, I'd stay with a 32GB.

Sweet! That is a lot of stuff for a 32GB! My new 32GB is on it's way. I am stoked to see how much it will hold, and how much storage you have left.

What is the average size of your videos?
