I heard some people say that it only has one but I think it might have 2. Previous generations have had a speaker in the headphone Jack right? So there is one in the bottom left and possibly one in the headphone Jack. Mine is in the mail so I will eventually check if I remember but could somebody who has one listen and see.

It comes out of the speaker port. Not the dock connecter or the headphone Jack.

Apple said that the one speaker uses the grille to resonate sound - but other sources have noted that the dock connector and even the headphone jack are also used.

I think the speaker sounds very good. Better than all the cell phone speakers i've tried. If you encode your 5.1 movies in dolby pro logic the sound is sort of stereo like but enjoyable. Is it possible to create psuedo stereo sound from one speaker?

well if Apple says that the one speaker grill is what is only used, then don't you think that would be enough? After all they make the product.

The reason why it sounds like its coming from the dock connecter and headphone port is because the size of the device. if you put your ear to the latter two then of course its going to sound like its comming from there, as the speaker is just mm away from them!

It has one speaker, however the speaker housing contains two ports, each covered with a grill. If you look inside of the dock connector port you can see the grill of the second speaker port.

In my opinion the internal speaker sounds great and is also quite loud if your audio/video files happened to be recorded at a decent level.

If you cup ur hand over it while playing a game, it becomes stereo.
