How long will Apple support Gen1 with FW updates?
omg, this is a good question.... im not sure, they cant just drop it can they
they certainly can
they can.. and they will... just look, you cant update the old first gen ipod nanos anymore (i think)
The first-gen Nanos are about 3 generations and as many years old - with this sort of precedent, it's likely we're going to see updates for the Touch for at least another few minor revisions, if not for another year or two beyond that. It may last as long as the first iPhone as far as support goes, since they're very similar hardware-wise.
Until there will be CPU architecture changes. Yes, 2G got diffrent CPU :> but this is still the same architecture and even clock, since it was underclocked. So all iPhone platform devices may have few years of update life-span ;] So do not worry
yea I have a First Gen Nano (Best one I say) and theres no more updates for it.
Think about this though, the iPod's and iPhones are so similar so they can make small adjustments to make it keep working. If it mostly the same hardware and software there should be no reason for them to just drop it. It's still the same OS on all Apple's mobile multi-touch products. They most likely stop until its perfected.
well, considering how much ppl have this, i dont think they'll drop anytime soon... maybe wen gen 3 comes out but who knows when thats coming out?? this is a really good question though
Oh man , never thought of this.
But I say for a little while more , since they are still putting stuff out for the 2G iPhone.
