How is this effect done?

    Hellooo.
    This is a typical effect I see on iPod Touches a lot.
    It's the curve through the middle of the picture, that is lighter above than below.

    I tried to draw a circle and then use Screen or Soft Light... but it doesn't work.
    Any ideas please? =]

    I believe this effect is done by using the Shape tool and drawing a WHITE CIRCLE across the top...
    then after drawing the white circle, you reduce the opacity to give it the lighter effect

    (thats the only way i can think of making it)

    Just lower the opacity.

    also, it looks better if you make the circle a layer mask and then make a gradient from white to alpha (with the alpha off the screen so its more white to less white) so it gives it that "reflection" effect - a great way to study this technique is to make different webclips of images on your ipod and then observe the effect apple's icon mask has on the image...although they also dim the image below the reflection, that isnt needed.

    Even better is to make a white-transparent gradient then getting ellipse marquee, select inverse, and delete.
