So, I picked up an iphone last night despite my previous idea of waiting until black friday.

I've also ordered an invisibleshield for the iphone but it won't come in for at least a week or possibly longer.

How important is it that I get a case/cover on this thing ASAP? I was thinking about buying $10 screen protectors from the AT&T store but they only protect the front and not the back or the chrome edges.

I really don't want this thing to get all scratched up.

EDIT: Also, are there any good ways to mount the iPhone in a 2004 Mazda 3S?

Not important. I have an iPod touch. No scratches, no case.

I would advise getting a screen protector on it pronto... you'll probably be careful with it early on but you never know and once the screens scratched up you can't so anything about it... screen protectors peel off easily so get a cheap one. The case will also help - I use the rubber ones so that it cushions any falls as it reduces risk of denting the case or cracking the glass screen.

Sigh, I have an iPhone 2G 16GB. Ive dropped it so many times, and yet, I only have a few scratches on the back, none on the screen, and a few tiny dents on the back from the hard drops.

I still recommend getting a case PRONTO though.

That's a good point about overheating...

I'm getting the invisibleshield which seems real nice (and a guy at the AT&T store had one on his phone and it was pretty nice I thought) but I'm wondering if it will affect the heat at all? I also hope that it's not going to be too much of a pain getting the skin on the phone.

I'd love to just use it without a case but I really don't want the front or even the back to get any permanent scratches...

I would get a case as soon as I could. Even if you dont care about scratches, search for pictures here of folks who've dropped theirs and broken the touch glass. I've never seen/heard of an overheating issue, even with a case on.
