My iPod was (still is) on 1.1.4. I downloaded 2.0 from a ******* about 2 weeks ago but never told iTunes I had it and never put it into the iPod firmware folder, so iTunes never knew I had 2.0. I never used it. The firmware was simply lying on a seperate (external) drive.

Yesterday my friend came to my house and plugged his iPod into my computer, an eMac with Tiger and iTunes 7.7 (dunno if some of this info is really important though). I was copying some of his music with Senuti and at some point it stopped, saying that you had to click away some message from iTunes before continiuing. And guess what that message was:
IT TOLD ME A NEW SOFTWARE VERSION (2.0) IS AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD! I pressed the Download button, AND IT JUST DOWNLOADED THE ORIGINAL 2.0 FOR FREE!!

It was 222.something MB large. It WAS 2.0! For free!
What you should do if you want to get it for free too:

    • Go to a computer that doesn't know your iPod
    • The iPod should be on 1.1.4
    • The computer should be a Mac (at least mine was)
    • You have to have iTunes 7.7

It's due to some kind of bug if iTunes doesn't know the iPod, it maybe checks for updates. It's actually kinda confusing, but entertaining

Yep this is true. And i'd suggest covering this up or something cuz it will be patched eventually. And it works on 1.1.5 and windows.

Of course it's better when stuff like that is covered up, but I don't wanna be egoistic and keep that for myself. Apple is really slow at patching stuff. WTF: 1.1.5 is still jailbreakable with tools from April

BTW: They still didn't fix that Jelly Donut bug...

Yeah, just wait for iTunes 7.7.2's 'bug fixes'.

OR.... just use the link in my signature.... it's easier, then having to go use another machine, and it will probably NEVER be patched =)

This is all old news. Its been know since the first day that 2.0 was out and its already been patched in 7.7.1 (11). Nickll9009 your link no longer works either.
