I have a ridiculously slow computer, and it takes about five hours to back up. Whenever I try to sync applications, it starts the backup process. I need a way to sync without backing up in the newest version of iTunes, can anyone help?

I don't think it's possible. See if there a way to Cancel it in the top of iTunes?
You can download the applications from iTunes on your computer instead.
You will not be charged for buying something a second time.

You can prevent this in the future by syncing your iPod more frequently.

That's what I'm talking about, I'm trying to put applications on my ipod from my computer and it keeps trying to back up, and there is no freaking way I'm waiting for the stupid thing to back up for seven hours.

go to file and hit "Transfer purchases from . . . "

    That will do it.

Just click the cross on top of itunes were it says backing-up the rest of the sync will continue.
