How do you do this?

    How do you make the stripes/lighting thing in the background of this picture?
    I have googled but no luck, i dont think im the searching the right thing. Thanks!

    that's pretty easy, I just can't explain it.
    one way is to make one "stripe" and use a gradient to make it fade. then just replicate that one and move them around, if someone can simplify what I'm trying to say it will be very helpful

    Use the pen tool to make your shape then create a white->transparent gradient... Really not that hard.

    theres a few ways to do this - make a white-transparent faded strip and duplicate it

    or make a white-transparent gradient from the center to the outside of your pic, then make a layer mask for it so its striped

    experiment to make it work well for your needs

    now for the radial burst in the background. Choose the Custom Shape Tool (U) and select the shape shown below.

    and strech it out bigger than the canvas

    or just search google for Rising Sun Photoshop Brushes. They have a stripe brush that you just apply fade.
