I have had my IPod touch 1G for a long time now and it has been at software version 1.1.5, I want to upgrade it to 3.1.2 however when I press upgrade on iTunes (yes I have the recent one)1.1.5 is the highest version unless I buy 3.1.3. My friend has upgraded to 3.1.2 but I do not know how. Help.

You have to pay to upgrade.

Is there not a way to download 3.1.2 and install it manually?

    Just pay the money.
Apple's not gonna give it to you for free.
I'm sure your friend paid for the firmware, like everyone else, unless he has a 3G iPod Touch.

That's illegal, stealing, piracy. Don't do it. Pay for it, or don't upgrade.

You have to click check for updates in itunes, then buy the update. It's $10 I believe.

It will be most likely 10$ or 5$ when released.
