hey, i have a qdi kudoz 7x/600 computer which i know little about but i am running windows xp professional on it. It has been acting up and i feel that the OS is so crippled that i need to reformat it. But there is a problem, my friend gave me an xp cdrom that contains the home addition of xp and since the professional edition is newer it wont let me reformat it. So i came to the conclusion that i had to delete windows all together and install the one from the cd that i have after i delete the current windows on my computer, but i have no idea how to do this... can somone please help me???? my computer is dying!!!!!!

    um...
is the home edition used by your friend? if it is, you won't be able to activate it

to reformat: use the recovery console on the xp disc and do

    format C:

at least i think that's the syntax

boot the computer from the disc,

Go into the recovery console by saying you want to repair windows,
It will bring you to command.com

    Type "Fomat C:"

    Type "y" when it asks

    It will format

    Install Windows XP,

When finished open IE and search for an activator on Google.

    Update Windows.

    End.

Boot from the xp disc. Then go to the repair option.

press F2 or F6 when you turn it on
it will put you into BIOS
then go into the "boot" option
then switch the "Cd-rom" option to the front
    reboot

Even if you mange to reinstall windows XP you wont be able to use the same key to activate it. You could PM me, I'll tell you a secret for getting a better fix for this problem.
