The question is, how do I change icons on my iMac's applications? I am running 10.7.4 (or whatever it is, I'm on the latest public build of Lion). I want to be able to change icons such as finder in my dock too. I'm looking for ways that are free. I've heard of programs out there but the ones I've stumbled upon have been for sale, not for free.

    Thank you much!

Right click, Show Package Content, Contents, Resources, find the icns
Replace it with whatever you want, or edit the current one.

I wouldn't mess with that, but:
    System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app

    Same routine.

I see. What about if you back the icons up? I really want to use the Mighty Finder icon from maxthemes.com

You should be able to change it fine like any other app. Just relaunch Finder after words.

Same process as other apps, then to relaunch Finder go to >Force Quit...>Finder>Relaunch

    I will try.

EDIT: When I right click on the finder icon in my dock, it doesn't show the properties thing.

    I would try out http://www.panic.com/candybar/

But to access finder, go to System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app
