I recently replaced the broken glass screen on my Ipod Touch 8Gb 1st Gen -this was more fiddly and time-consuming than I expected but it went OK ;-).... or so I thought ;-(
Now everything seems to work except the LCD Backlight so the screen is very dull and only readable by holding close to a light source.
Anyone have any ideas what I might have done, and any hints of tracking down the root of the problem?
    Thanks.

Could very well be. You'd have to replace it if it was torn.

Any idea where I could get just the ribbon (without the LCD screen)?

I know this may be a dumb question. But did you check your brightness levels?
