    ).

Please note, I did not create the Black Chrome theme (seen in screenshot); I have only posted it to show what it looks like and for you to see if my icons fit in with the theme. I only created the Dropbox, Tweetdeck, and other INDIVIDUAL icons seen in this thread. I take no credit for the Black Chrome theme.

So I decided to make my own icons. So firstly, here's a preview of the theme.

And now, here's my icon. I decided to make a Dropbox icon, which I needed desperately. Now before you go on criticizing (please, please, please do so, but constructively), keep in mind that this is my first ever attempt at creating an iPhone app icon. It took me 2 hours. And I used GIMP (I can't afford PS, and I can't install any software on my computer like Paint.XP).

So without further ado, my icon

And also, for the experts, how can I create fill effects like those in the iTunes (texture), Beejive IM (texture and depression of glyph), Cydia (texture and gloss) and Winterboard (overall appearance)?

GIMP handles layer styles. You mean like normal or overlay or dodge or screen or grain extract, etc. ?

Ah...gotcha. I think GIMP have them, but they're not classed under Layer styles. They're mixed up and hidden under filters.

Also, my icon seems to appear smaller than other icons because it lacks a curvature or a third dimension. Is there a way I can get this effect while keeping the glyph slightly engraved in the icon? Similar to BeejiveIM (see 1st post screenie) but with a white glyph.
