well someone on here managed to forward their emails to their gmail account, and set up a "send on behalf of" setting on his gmail account so that he could handle all his hotmail through his gmail.

I, however, couldn't get it to work - probably because I'm using a .co.uk account.

    Couldn't connect to mail.google.co.uk

EDIT: No you can't just use hotmail directly with mail.app

oh yeah you can probably surf to hotmail.com on safari... just you can't sync your account with the mail application.

what he meant is that you can't sync your hotmail account with the mail.app but you can go to the safari browser and go to hotmail.com and check your account.

ok, i'm testing a work around. I set up my hotmail to auto-forward to a gmail account and the gmail account i added my hotmail account there and set it to reply using the hotmail account. the hope is i can use the mail app to synchronize with the new gmail account that controls the hotmail. Testing right now.

ok, it worked, here's a guide for people.

What you need: 1 hotmail account, 1 new gmail account.

step 1: log into the hotmail account you want to have the mail app synchronized with and click on options, forward mail to another email account. Add the new gmail account you created.
step 2: go to your new gmail account and accept the confirmation. Now all your incoming hotmail emails will go to a sync-able account.

step 3: in your gmail account go to settings, accounts, add another account, enter your hotmail address, and then click on specify a differnet reply-to address and enter your hotmail address in that as well.
step 4: go to your hotmail account and confirm on the varification email.
step 5: in gmail go to settings, forwarding and pop and enable pop for all mail.
step 6; add your gmail account into your mail app.
