Do you still have the warranty? heres how to find out...

go to apples web site and then go to the support tab. on the right hand side it has a link that says "repair" near it. click that and you will find a link to find out what you warranty status is. you will need your serial number of the ipod too. another link lets you report a problem with a product. you need to select what it is and the problem and its easy. you will need a credit or debit card but i wasnt charged cuz when i did it i still had a a warranty. you will be mailed a box and you put the ipod in the box and bring it to a DHL drop off location and it has a preprinted return lable. they will inspect the problem when they get it and will most likly send you a new one as they did with me. it will come back to you in the mail.
here is a link on what its like to repackage it into its shipment box.

Rofl settings and restoring are both software things. The home button is obviously hardware. You will have to send this to apple to get it fixed or replaced. There isn't much else you can do, and I don't recommend taking your iPod apart and trying to replace the spring. Apple is your best bet here.

Lets say you wanna erase all tracks of a jailbreak, is going into itunes and pressing restore without putting ipod touch into dfu mode, does that erase all information of jailbreak or w/e?
