Hi! I'm new here. I am also new to ipod touch 8gig. Just got one last week. Have a 1st gen ipod nano 4gig and a 3rd gen ipod nano 8gig.

So, I don't understand. Are the 8gig ipod nanos...3rd gen? Or must you have a 16gig or 32gig for it to qualify as 3rd gen?

    Welcome to Multi-Touch fans!

Do you mean iPod touch? If so, The iPod touch 8gb that you have is called a 3rd gen, but it doesn't have the enhanced processor speeds that the 32 & 64gb include. They all share one simularity: having an MC serial. This means that Apple has patched an exploit (an exploit is used to jailbreak) in the bootrom. So basically the iPod touch 2g and 3g are the same things, but the 3g has an updated bootrom.

Anyway, if you would like to jailbreak your iPod, click the link in my sig. If you don't want to jailbreak, you should update your iPod touch firmware to 4.0 with iTunes.
