The toolchain is easy enough to install.

    Standard install:
    http://code.google.com/p/iphone-dev/wiki/Building
    Windows install
    http://iphone.fiveforty.net/wiki/index.php/Toolchain_installation_-_Windows
I have completed both buillds, and I can assure that they both work.

After you get the toolchain built, take the code for the Bluetooth.app I've posted in this same subforum and try to compile it. This might be a better toolchain test because it doesn't call all the headers that are called for in the HelloWorld app that is posted at the iPhone Dev site. It is also the bare minimum code, and [I feel] much easier for a beginner to understand than the HelloWorld app.

Once you compiled the code and confirmed that it works in your iPod (don't forget to set the permission on the executable to allow execution, and make an Info.plist file, as you'll get an "UnknownPurpleApp" error if you don't) , go online and find source code. Pour over that until you get sick of it, all the while playing and messing with things uintil you get the hang of what does what, and the proper method of doing things. Once you're ready, create away.

A site with some good code samples is http://www.idevdocs.com

i want to start to atleast try to create apps and i am using this as my beginners guide. I dont have a background in programming but i am determined to learn how. I am trying to use the the winSCP method it step 2 to get the iphone filesystem. When i ssh into my ipot, what files am i actually trying to save to my computer?
