    Ok so here is my latest theme and i i used gimp to make all icons and i used a glyph pack i downloaded from the internet to make some icons and the app store, cydia, and i file icons i made myself from scratch i made the background and the lock screen wallpaper and the backgrounds on the icons i made those to!!! i started it this morning, and im using GIMP 2.6! Here are some pics

    Icons. Cool. Background. Looks like work done in PAINT. And once it's done I think it'd rather be in the Theme / Customization section.

    Do some work on your base then do something to your glyphs, if thats how your gonna make a wallpaper at least make the gradient smooth and nice

    alright for a first, i suggest using the burn and dodge tool to add shading, trust me they help a LOT!!!
